Barn Finding.

I'm seeking a barn itself rather than an Elan-in-a-Barn.

Heh Heh, I wonder if anyone knows of one?

I'm seeking to move house out of London to say Dorset or Wiltshire, but I have LOTS of STUFF.
As well as my classic Elan and all the garage stuff needed for its maintenance etc I also have a collection of classic computers from the late 70's onwards (with masses of documentation etc) which I want to get going again, load with suitable demo software and donate to various computer museums such as The Centre For Computing History at Cambridge, Professor Jim Austin's Computer Sheds in Yorkshire and The National Computer Museum at Bletchley Park, for instance.

The only practical method for moving house appears to be to first store all this stuff elsewhere, including my Elan, before house sell & buy. Commercial storage is VERY expensive, hence I seek a barn at a lower cost. I visited one last week but then to my annoyance it turns out that it wasn't really available this year.

So anybody know of one?? Preferably in Dorset or Wiltshire. UK.

:D :o  :D

If you fancy going abroad there's lots of farms and their like with outbuildings in Welsh Wales and likely to be much cheaper. Just a scenic in parts with some nice driving roads too!

Good thread ...
Having moved out of London to East Sussex some 30 years ago and having travelled extensively along the coast, I think it would be hard to beat West Sussex for anything but the price.
However, we are very luck to live in such a beautiful part of the country and you are spoilt for choice.
Happy hunting.

Here you go Bill, less than 30 minutes from the Severn Bridge and tolls being abolished next March too.

4000sqft barn do you? No idea of your budget but with a London property to sell who knows?

Didn't claim it to be nice - just pointing out what's available.

Looks very nice to me! And about the price of a small suburban house in Vancouver...

Now, if you can move over here, we have this to offer you sir:

You may have to split things up. For non-car storage have you looked up the big yellow warehouse type places ?

Going to Wales wouldn't be going abroad, it would be going home! I was born near Ebbw Vale :D

But I've rather discounted that option as being a bit too far.

To heck with the house, I want to see the inside of the out building. Houses are only good for eating and sleeping.

Good luck.
I looked for 2 years in Essex and no luck. All the barns here have been converted to houses.
Even finding a house with a usable garage was hard to find.

I ended up with a house that was and still is too small but did get a double garage.
If you hear of a small farm with a barn in Essex let me know as we are looking to move again. ??
