I need another twin cam in my life and have always hankered after one of these since my teens.

Currently actively seeking a usable/project car to enjoy for a year a so and the to become my next restoration project.

If anyone knows of or has such a car for sale please PM me. 1750 or 2000GTV preferred but keeping an open mind.

Learn to weld, i bought a guilia super because it was on the bucket list for 40 years but after a lot of welding i came to the conclusion that glassfibre may itch like hell but old age damage to bodywork is much easier to rectify than old metal,

Rene is absolutely right and you'll have to pay big money for one complete with the bottom 12 inches of bodywork intact! But they are around, and there was a GT Junior on ebay a couple of months ago that had been imported from South Africa that was tatty, but had never had any rust. That was about ?14k, but needed paint, interior and a mechanical overhaul.

This was at an auction I went to a couple of years back, and it turned out to belong to an elderly lady just up the road from me, who'd had it from new, and had driven it 11000 miles from new!!!. It was looked after by the local garage who knew the full history of the car, and it was as good as it looks. If I'd have known this before the auction it would be in my garage now!

On top of buying a 1971 giulia i also bought a saab classic cabrio which is comparable to an old alfa rustwise.
I was under the impression that swedish steel was better than italian but i prefer english glassfibre.

Currently part way through a bare metal restoration of a Mk 1 Mini (I have 2) so I know all about rust! And I'm full aware of the Alfa's legendary status for corrosion.

Vehicle restoration has become a hobby so this does not phase me.

I visited a company in Newcastle yesterday who specialise in 105 restorations - some fantastic work but these cars are truly beautiful and I'd rather look at one of these than a paper pension portfolio!

I'm told it was often using cheap Russian steel that led to the demise of most 70's cars. (Something to do with the carbon contents?)

Whilst living near Plymouth a sailor, neighbour, parked his nearly new Sud and tootled off across the waves for 15 months.
When he got back it had practically disappeared.

My brother has a AlfaSud Sprint Ti, it's kinda held together with duck tape and wishful thinking but it's easily in my top 5 favourite cars to drive, it just handles really well and has enough power to make you think your a driving God

...and don't mention Lancia steel, finished them off in the UK

Was that the coupe version? I considered one once but it seemed the body plan of a gibbon was a requirement to drive it.

Alfas were one of my first loves. In 1985 I purchased my first, a 1977 Alfetta 2000GTV in black with black vinyl seats, the one with the revcounter ahead of the driver. It had already been resprayed once by that time. Loved the bones of it, but by 87 the rot was eating through again and after failing the MOT it was laid up and eventually scrapped. I then purchased a 79 model in dark blue with grey velour seats, which eventually I converted into a competition car. Won 2nd in the 2 litre class at an event on the old Aintree club circuit, my best ever result. The following month I lost an argument with an armco on Oulton Park and sold the car on as a damaged project.

The one I really wish i still had today was a 1982 Veloce Sprint Trofeo limited edition, in silver with half leather/half tweed seats. It had been bought new in the UK in RHD by a doctor, who shipped it out to Switzerland, returning in about 1988 with the car still mint and with a full Swiss Alfa history. It was purchased by a friend of mine who soon after changed jobs and had to sell the car. I owned it for 6 months, loved it, but reluctantly sold it when somebody made me an offer I couldn't refuse. According to 'how many left', there are only 22 Veloce Sprints of all models still taxed in the UK.

Ironically, I did come across a video on youtube of somebody selling a Trofeo, the twin of mine. Unfortunately I saw it too late and the car was long gone.

I think there were a few company's finished off by the steel..... Jenson Interceptor is still a car that should not be mentioned at work without having an hour to spare for the rant.

I've owned 15 Alfas since 1977, many of them Bertone GTs. Currently own a 2000. Can't help you much about finding a car in your part of the world, but I strongly suggest you join the alfabb forum http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/. It is a very powerful source of information, and has members all over.

Classic Alfa in your part pf the world is a reliable parts source that I use all the time; they have a "for sale" section on their website.

I decided that the coupes are overvalued (though lovely).

I ended up with this and still have plenty of funds in reserve to give it a good going over

Not as good to drive as the Plus 2 but it's practical and the wife likes it (always helps with any vehicle purchase )
