Thanks Bud. I guess it will become obvious once we are on the salt. How many days did you spend there?

Paid for the week long pass but stayed only four days. We were camped in the mud flats on the way into the race area and rain was forecast for Thursday. Didn't want to get the motorhome mired down so we left on Wednesday, as did quite a few others. The four days were great but we were ready to go, rain or no rain. The heat and sun were taking their toll.

We looked at RV rental but the cost for a week was ridiculously high. It was cheaper to hire a car for the five weeks and book into a local hotel for three days.

Thanks for your advice, we can compare notes when we get back

Found out yesterday that the World Finals have been cancelled due to a thunder storm flooding the salt!

Even though I'm a Kiwi, and like the idea, it ain't.....

The original streamliner went to the States, and never returned.
Burt only ever brought the engine back to work on, and put it into a frame in NZ for testing.
Which, from a financial/shipping cost point of view, makes sense bearing in mind Burt didn't have a lot of money.

The actual bike, less, presumably the original engine, is still in the States and the one in NZ is a slightly less than accurate representation of the actual record breaking bike.

Over the years of Burts salt racing there must have been many engines, frames and body work versions developed and used. I am surprised there is only two people claiming to have the original as there must have been enough parts to build many more .

This is the dilemma of every historic racer and collector as to what is the original car ( or bike in this case)
