Can anyone recommend a rolling road in the Manchester (UK) area where there is good knowledge of tuning Webers?

Perhaps too distant for you, as near to Chester, but these people have been recommended as Weber & Dellorto experts, with rolling road.

I have not actually used them but visited and was told by them that a tuning would cost ?100-?180, depending upon time required etc - they have jets etc in stock but have a 6-week waiting list !

Another option: Skip Brown, who are renowned tuners of Peugeot 205's but also know Weber & Dellorto carbs, thru working on Talbot-Sunbeam-Lotus.

I've had a 205 tuned there in the past, with excellent results, so I'm very likely to entrust my car to their rolling road before too long, as they charge ?60, plus any parts, which seems very fair!

Let me know where you end up going for your RR tuning, even if it's not one of my suggested!

Martin, I used Pro Tec in 2010 to set up Webers and tune a newly rebuilt Imp engine, Ginetta G15 certainly ran better going home. I will use them once my +2 is back on the road.

Thanks to both for the suggestions. I have found RE Performance in Bury who have good write ups and recommendations from the Mini community.

I will check out your suggestions and let you know where I go and what the result is. I want to get it done this week as off to Classic le mans next week and have some laps. Can't wait.

I took mine to RE Performance a few years ago.
They seem to have a comprehensive stock of Weber chokes and jets. They even had a distributor in stock.
It came out running a lot better than when it went in, although I have found and cured other problems since which have improved it some more.

I ended up going to RE performance in Bury (very local to me) and Eric from Burnley has used them. The place is a bit "untidy" but, the old Guy Ken who runs it really knows his stuff and is very familiar with the Twincam engine and Webers. As Eric says, he has trays of jets and chokes and every conceivable tool.

He ended up completely removing the mid rev range lumpiness I had , the car now pulls smoothly from 2k in fourth where before I would have had to change down and it would have taken plenty of revs to get it moving. It still idles a little unevenly so perhaps some more work needed. I also had the cam timing checked and all the tappets reset and shims replaced. Ignition timing also checked and adjusted and engine compression tested.

The power run showed 115 BHP at the wheels which seems OK for an engine that was built 30 years ago. (see spec below). It has electronic ignition and TTR manifold and system. The verdict seems to be it is a good strong engine. As previously indicated on the forum, I can probably squeeze a few more horses out by changing the standard airbox and trying different chokes. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Will give RE a go, hopefully in 6 months time, still undergoing resto.
You are right replacing the air box with a K&N, it will let the engine breath.

A few years ago a pal mechanic told me of a place in Trafford Park who set up racing cars maybe look into this area on Google, he really rated them

I use Ric Woods in Stockport.....
very good but not particularly cheap....
generally costs me about ?180 for the carb work and RR tune up
