Hi All

Yesterday afternoon a gust of wind blew over a reasonably large Silver Birch tree in my garden, unfortunately onto one our family cars(not Lotus)!
Having spoken to my insurers - both household and car - neither can decide where the claim lies, if it had been someone else?s car or a neighbours tree no problem but as both belong to me there seems to be a lack of knowledge. Bit of a long shot but has anyone had experience of this?

Regards
John

Slates off my roof hit my car. (Also not Lotus.) There didn't seem to be any question of liability and the car insurer paid out.
Similar if not exactly the same situation.
(Had it been your neighbours tree, I believe it would still be a claim on your car insurance as it would be treated as an act of god, unless of course you could prove negligence on neighbours part.)
Dougal.

In the great storm of 87 slates from my garage roof damaged my car (not Lotus) I didnt want to claim on the car insurance and lose my NCB, house insurer refused saying it was the responsability of the car insurer, no doubt the car insurer would have said the same! They said if the tiles had hit my neighbours or anyone elses car they would have paid out.

I miraculously found a few holes in the cement board garage roof (the rear section) and concluded that the tiles from the front had done it, the payment for new roof panels covered the damage to the car, I repaired the roof with P40!

I'm sure the statute of limitations has passed since 1987!

Had they behaved honorably then I would have been my normal honorable self.

point taken though, the post is now editted, nice that the forum allows enough time to do so!

Thanks for the replies, the answer is that the car insurers have picked up the bill - annoyingly - I have 3 cars on my policy and I fear that next renewal I will be picking up the bill!
