Terrafuga has had a vehicle flying - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrafugia

p.s. I flew my 130/5 for about 40 feet in 1983... not a lot of control though!

300 bhp, 200 mph, 500 miles range.

I bet: also 100mpg (flying), 200mpg (at 100mph)
and all for less then 100.000 USD

Is it just me, or do the wings seem a bit unrealistically small for the job they have to do on that one?

We've been promised flying cars ever since cars and airplanes were both invented. And so far, all attempts have proven to be real compromises- and haven't been very good as either cars or airplanes. The demands of the two roles are quite different, and getting more and more different as cars are required to be cleaner, safer, and faster- at least two of which add weight.

None of which is to say that a flying car can't happen, but I remain skeptical about one that's any good.

At least Terrafugia intend to let the machine do the flying. I've always thought that flying cars were a BAD idea, as most drivers are too clueless and inept to be safe operating in two dimensions, let alone three.

It doesn't require wings. It's a 'tilt rotor'. Google 'Bell V 22 Tilt Rotor'.

I suspect the power required would be a challenge, but everything else is proven technology. It just might work..... At a price!
