No wonder many people don't like sprouts, they are cooked to death! :-)

Strip outer leaves, cut a cross in the base.
Stand in cold, salted water for 10 minutes.
Melt butter with chopped onions, salt and pepper in a pan for a few minutes.
Carefully add a small amount of boiling water (around an inch) and bring back to the boil.
Add sprouts and add more boiling water to just cover sprouts.
sprinkle in a teaspoon of sugar.
I also add a tablespoon of mixed herbs.
Boil until a sharp knife can be pushed into the sprout.
DO NOT OVERCOOK!!!!
Drain and pour into a pre-heated dish.
Enjoy.

Holy Christ on a rusty bike- would you stop winding me up, Ed? MrsT has just this minnit got in from the fields wit the last of the 2014 harvest and now yer saying she must put the pot back on to boil... will ye give that woman no rest?

As it happens.. back in October I was "gifted" some early sprouts by a farmer friend, who told me to fry them in a hot wok with streaky bacon and peeled garlic cloves. Magic. Normally I hate sprouts too but this was a revelation...

Maybe we need a recipes section on this forum?

Cut them in half, drizzle them with olive oil, sprinkle salt and pepper, and put them in the oven flat side down until they start to brown. Flip them over for a couple of minutes.

Do they really?

I have lived in France for 10 years and in that time have never been served a vegetable that hasnt been boiled to virtually a pur?e with the exception of raw ones in crudit?s.

Plan B: Mrs T has but recently invested in a NUTRiBULLET gizmo. Evidently one is supposed to put in half greens and half fruit and whiz it around for a while to produce a tasty and nutricillllicious drink. I played along for the first couple of times but sneaked in a spicy sausage for the third attempt and dunked in a meat and potato pie just this evening.
Madame seems to think that her recipies are improving. She has yet to see all that kale in our compost bin. Women, eh?

I find putting the sprouts in one glass and a dram of strong brown liquid in a second glass then ignoring the first is the only way to enjoy sprouts .... ed
