Anything of Lotus Interest in/around LA?

PostPost by: pharriso » Tue Apr 08, 2014 4:51 pm

I'll be travelling to Anaheim CA at the end of the month & will have the afternoon of Sunday April 27th free.

I'm not particularly interested in seeing Disney without my family (!); is there anything Lotus related to see in the area?

Phil

Seeing as you will be on the west coast you could always hop up here and visit for the day.

Well, barely tangentially related and a bit of a coincidence, but on the 27th is the annual ?all Ford? show at Knotts [next door to Anaheim]. This is also the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang, so it will no doubt be even more massive than usual.

The general theme is anything Powered by a Ford based engine of any sort. This has become a big event over the years, with Ford factory participation as well as the usual assortment of aftermarket parts suppliers, reproduction cars, kit cars, clones, conversions, wanna-bees, hanger-ons and general riff-raff.

There will something from every year of Ford production, of course, and it tends to draw the Cobras, Tigers, Panteras, TVR, Griffith, Italia, Pangra T-Birds, Falcon Sprints & Comets, a variety of race cars & hot rods, 1957 ? 59 Hide-a-way Hardtop convertibles, and yes perhaps even Lotus [and whatever else I may have overlooked].

Oops, I missed this entirely. I must have thought that it was later.

At any rate, if you are still looking for something Lotus related to do on April 27, you have actually picked a very good date.

The ?Queens?s English? all British Car show will be held at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.

This is a bit more of a drive from Anaheim, but much more likely to be worth the trip for a Lotus & British car aficionado. It is about 60 miles or so from Anaheim, but on Sunday, the traffic should not be too bad.

This event will typically have a good turnout of many British marques, including Lotus, Jaguars, MG, Triumph, Morgans, Minis, Healeys, Sunbeam Alpines & Tigers, Roll Royce, Bentley, Daimler, Jensens, Astons and many others. Of course, this has now also become famous as the event where Leno introduced his finally completed 26R clone for its first public showing last year.

Phil,

Glad you will be able to make it. I expect to be there, so I will be pleased to stop by and say Hi! Sorry to hear that James will not be able to make it.

I will look for you & Ken at the Lotus section.

Hi All,

I did hit the All Ford Show at Knott?s in the morning, and then headed to the ?Queen?s English? All British Car Show in Van Nuys so I did not have nearly as much time at either show as I would have liked. It was great weather, and there was a great variety of cars at each show. I did have a chance to talk with Phil & Ken, and it is always great to meet another Elan owner. Encouragement to get mine on the road much appreciated.

I was able to arrive at the Queen?s show bit earlier than Phil so I did have more time to snap a few more pics. Some folks were already leaving with their cars & I was in a bit of a rush to get as many as I could.

That is my story/excuse for the quality of the pics [which is to say the lack thereof], and I will stick with that.

At any rate, here are a few samples & a link to the rest of the lot that I loaded into ?OneDrive?.

...and now for something completely different...there was this 1910 Daimler 57 HP Hooper Limousine from the Peterson collection. Inline 6 cyl is 9.4 litre. This car was displayed at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2011.
