as a new elan owner, I had never driven it in the dark.....
yesterday, I drove home in a hailstorm and so put the lights on....
couldn't understand why everyone was pulling over to let me past, and getting out of my way,until I drove into the garage and realised that headlamps were on continuous 'flash'

note to self......might sometimes be useful to 'forget' to put headlamp switch to 'on'

So you had the vacuum switch pulled out without the headlight toggle switch on, congratulations - it worked as designed!

yep! I had only turned on the sidelights....
do I presume the continuous flashing mode is unique to elans? it's certainly useful for clearing out traffic in front.....was that the intended purpose????

Other way round, you pulled the vacuum switch without the sidelights

Intended just for flashing, would not be allowed today on a new car...

Just don't try approaching the back of a police car with them flashing.

You might get fined.
