Dear All

Bearings fitted,just waiting a few more parts to complete...but while we're here which impeller do you think best for the waterpump? Choice of 4

Either 1 (cast with large fins) or 4 (pressed with large fins)

and while we're at it what do you think of filling the void between the seal and bearing with silicone grease?

Hello John,

No opinion on the impeller. That's the first pressed steel one I have seen.

The void between the water pump seal and bearing provides a space where water can weep from the seal and drain through the weep hole, to keep water from entering the bearing. Grease will simply plug the weep hole.

Grease should not be used on the seal either. The coolant lubricates the seal.

Yes,I've polished the seats of the impellers ready to sit against the carbon seal,the thought process was that if the seal leaks water/silicone will be expelled from the drain hole but the silicone will extend the bearings life a little longer..

Whats crtical is the impellor nose height the, other variations in impellor design dont really matter IMHO.

The Impellor nose height needs to match the type of seal used. Normally the lower nose height impellor goes with the seal that uses the ceramic washer and the higher nose impellors go with the seal that runs direct on the impellor nose. But lots of variations out there so if you got a complete kit of seal bearing and impellor use what you got. If you mix and match you need to take care to ensure you get the right compression on the seal.

Thanks Rohan,I have seen various kits,some with the slinger,some without and some with the sealing "washer",I have polished the impeller noses to run as a seal if needed,will check the blade/insert clearances and use whichever gives the best figures although there is a spring in the seal to allow for a margin of error.
