As aluminium is approx half the weight of steel, simply holding them should be sufficiant to be able to tell what they are made of, I would have thought.
Aye, you are only really interested in finding out if the density is near as dammit to Aluminium or common alloys.
I don't think they would bother to make hollow aluminium ones.
If density is not near, then they are probably hollow s/s.
