Just experienced an amusing moment.
I wanted to buy a new Jerry can .
Looked on the local tool suppliers website and found some heavy duty steel ones.
Only problem the statment next to it was:- "Jerry Cans not suitable for transporting or storing flammable liquids"
I have been trying to think all day of a possible use for a Jerry can that cant hold fuel.
Beats me

I used a couple to make a set of panniers for a long motorcycle trip. I then binned them because they were too heavy and used plastic "jerrycans" instead -

Interesting Wiki info Brian.
I particularly liked the pictures showing how one or two people can carry the can.
So the green Jerry can I looked at thats designed for unleaded fuel cant be used for flammable liquids.
I do like the pannier idea.
Although I still think they would look better on the Land Rover.
