Big Ben name change?

PostPost by: cal44 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 4:06 pm

Thought I would get it from the source (U.K guys) Are they really changing the term Big Ben clock tower to the Elizabeth Tower?

Really....................? Is this a good thing? All my life it's been........Ben.

Well I had not heard about this monumental waste of money but maybe they should change it to "Baby Ben" to keep up with the times .......DING-DONG!

Yes they are changing the name of the tower to the Elizabeth or Queen Elizabeth Tower. I dont recall what is is called now.
But it is the bell that is Big Ben and that is not changing.

Ken.

Yep, probably belongs in the "what ya listenin' to now?" thread but references to St Stephen in this thread got me searching for this Grateful Dead song.

That's nothing: our Town Council has proposed naming the car park at the back of Sainsbury's the Queen Elizabeth Car Park. Makes me proud to be a Republican (in the UK but a Democrat- sympathiser in the US).

Tis the clock tower of the palace of Westminster. Big ben is the name of a bell notable for having a crack in it. The Numeral 4 on the clock face is IIII rather than the Roman numeral IV.

Everyone will carry on calling it Big Ben. Long live the Queen!
