I was ambitious this morning and moved a slider (Lotus Elite) out of the way out in my storage shed. The slider is on a moving dolly so not a big thing but the drop down stairs had to come off the hinges so I could access the trap door that just slides out of the way if nothing has fallen in the way. I was lucky and everything worked out and didn't drop the stairs once the hinges were pulled. As a matter of fact it was wedged and I couldn't even pull it down with all of my weight. I dropped the other end an inch and left the safety on (14 gauge romex wire twisted several times ) and went back to the hinged end and managed to pull one side of the drop down stairs down but the other still was wedged by about an 1/8 of an inch so I got out the wood chisel and Linkstar mallet and relieved that area. I left just enough so I had to pull it down hard and it came free. Once I rested it on the top of the ladder I lowered the other end and repositioned it so I could access the trap door. I found quite a bit of junk

There were those pesky Lucas starters that seem to multiply everywhere. I need an exterminator to come in and take care of them once and for all. :D

You had better call that exterminator, before they further reproduce.

They do work well for propping doors open, ballast for sailboats might be another use. They are a little to heavy for hurling over the fence into the neighbor's yard, I have found the heater control valves to be just the right size for that.

I'm getting so old that when I go into the garage and see a part that I forgot I had.............it's like a rare find at a garage sale................

Last week I was hunting around in there and opened a box I didn't recognize. The box contained a '65 Shelby GT350 Holley carburetor with LeMans bowls. "damn.......where did this come from?, turns out I bought it a few years ago".

Aging.....................cracks me up.

I found 2 or 3 more Lucas starters in the back off the garage too. Might be the worst infestation in New England. :)

I knew most of the stuff was up there but I was looking for a type 16 upright casting that had the brake caliper ear broke off. Its around someplace but not up there. The two that I found need the snap ring groove reinstalled and thats a bit more work that welding an ear back on but they are down so I may have to see some folks that can tig weld and add the lip back on. Then I may be able to get them to someone else that has a Bridgeport mill and put the groove back in. Seems like a lot of work but I guess I wont know until I ask...

Gary

p.s. the Caterham chassis was better than I remembered, it only needs a lot of work after the Ford E250 van drove up to Tony's lap to see if he was paying attention... :(

Hmm, I'll have to give this a try if it's worked for you guys - I'm looking out for a few parts.

More than likely if I move anything I'll come across all those lost single socks (washing machine is in the garage), cat poo (never figured out where he does it), or both

Excellent thread!
My wife's school has a case of scarlet fever; confirmed on Friday.
The bin men forgot to come down our road this week and there is big trouble in our house today regarding Mother's day.
I'll need to remember to buy some tins of beans and bog rolls on Tuesday.

No time to play with old cars.............
