LHD Elan - Time to give up I think........

PostPost by: terryp » Thu Oct 13, 2011 6:25 am

Well as we know we have been looking for a LHD Elan for my wife

I have had now another dodgy Elan owner.......
The advert appeared in the American Lotus Club Magazine with the car in Ohio , I replied and was sent pictures and information. I asked to pay a deposit. The owner was going away for a week so he promised to email on his return with a parts list and pictures so we could agree which bits I wanted and to sort the deposit out.
I received this email this morning ........

Terry,

The car is sold. Thank you for your interest. I apologize for the
aggravation.
Craig

AGGRAVATION!!!! I only spent all week trying to sort the shipping out and gearing up all the parts the car needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To say I am amazed is an understatement. Am I the only honourable person left.

Terry :-(

Terry,
I agree- time to give up on buying an LHD car...... from anywhere other than France. Even if you found one in another EU country, there would be no end of hassles with import- wasn't the good old EEC great (Not to mention EFTA).

Are you a member of CL France?

A bientot, mon brave.

Problem is only a few cars went to France , hundreds went to the US
Import is easy from the US , in fact I have made some useful contacts if anyone else is interested.
Its the people/sellers where the problem is and they are the same the world over!

Terry,
I tried something different. See if this worked. If not then I will post my email.

In the past four days I have sent email (email box) messages too two parties............they do not find the person. It's like I never wrote. Something is up.
Terry, I wrote sent a PM...........I lied. It was sent through the email. Oooooops.

Car has brand new TT 26R chassis.......- your budget is a bit skinny though, as the USD is not much these days.... :?

Hi Terry

The one in Norway looks nice - a roll-bar is for safety primariliy, even if it does look racey. And the stripe - be a shame to turn down a nice car for that. Figure in a romantic weekend in Norway with a one-way Easy Jet ticket and it looks closer to your budget.

I'd ask for more photos ;-)

Terry,

surely this is the answer to your problem - well within budget, can be built up as LHD and not so far to go and collect it!
