Thanks Everyone for the leads and links. I have written several e-mails and really appreciate the help. I know it is not an Elan so hope the post was OK.

65 Ginetta,

I was admiring ( I think ?) your car a few years back when it was down in Decatur getting the headers made by Bob. I have always found the "packaging" of the engine bay to be an interesting exercise on these.

The G4 is one of very few cars which make the Elan look BIG; it is also one of the few cars that I've seen run rings around Elans on the track!

What a great find, you lucky man; please do keep us posted with progress, I think the G4 is "our sort of car".

G4 vs Elan?

In the USA an Elan races at 1270 lbs (577 kilos) and a G4 races at 1050 lbs (477 kilos) and they generally use the same tire.

With a 175 HP Pushrod or a 195 HP Twincam the G4 usually has the advantage in power to weight ratio.

Always amazing how many times it's the Elans that are first to the checkered flag.

After much investigation and lots of very delicate paint removal I did locate the chassis number on the G4. It is 5/ 0126. Now I am waiting to hear back from Trevor Pyman in England to find out what he can tell me about my car. He has been tremendously helpful and even forwarded a picture of my very car taken in 1965 in Birmingham England.
Cheers

Very nice. A period picture is a great addition to your awesome car.

Best of luck,

The G4 is my Lotus Elan nemesis when it comes to racing in the UK. They are soooo light and quick. I regularly race against Dave Randall and Justin Murphy in their green and orange versions. I've attached a photo of me chasing Dave Randall which shows just how small a G4 is.

Occasionally I can get the better of a G4 but it's not often - Motors TV got some good footage of our last race at Brands where we had a right old ding dong. If it gets uploaded to U-Tube I'll post a link.

Lucky you - mind you the Elan really is a lot more sophisticated!

Sorry for wandering off Elan's but a link between Elan's and Ginetta's racing, these two guys John Fletcher and John Absalom regularly traded places in 70's racing at Croft in the North of England, always THE highlight of the meeting.

Oh! to see the likes of them again.

I have a 1966 G4 I found a month ago in Lethbridge Alberta Canada. It is complete with no engine transmission. Mine has the original hood as does yours. Serial G4/0232 red. When I figure out how to post a picture I will it looks identical to yours patina and all
