Rally prepped Elan described

PostPost by: ardee_selby » Mon May 23, 2011 9:27 pm

An old write-up. Not sure how old.

Not sure why it has two reg.plates though....one "D" (1966) & one "H" (1970)

Cheers - Richard

Unfortunately I can't read the text but it reminds me... does anyone know what happened to the Jimi Hendrix Elan?

Try right clicking & open in new window...enlarges page sizes to view.

It appears to have been converted from RHD to LHD, or vice versa...

Well, you know what they say:

Lately things just don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why...

I'm sure there was a similar photo but with different face...

Sorry, forgot to say...when the new window opens the mouse pointer should have a (+) sign to click on when moved over the image. Click to enlarge it.

In fact the Elan belonged to Noel Redding, the bassist in the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which was around in London from mid 1966 to approx mid 1967. That's Noel standing to the right in the famous photo. He was from Folkstone so it might be fair to assume that he would have a right hand drive car, so the pic of Hendrix on his own must be the wrong way around.

So all you 1966 S3 Coupe owners need to check if your car has a previous owner by the name of N Redding!

This photo seems contempory to them pictured with the Elan.

Amazing how he got all that hair in a Coupe! :)
