Steve, this wasn't a case of spare parts being stolen. This was his car, in its component form, all of which had been re-furbished / restored / replaced. When people take their cars apart, and they have laid up insurance, they don't usually expect to contact their house insurance provider and tell them that as the car is now in bits, they have lots of bits that they'd like insured under the household policy.

This is a real problem, not a hypothetical one, faced by most folks who currently have their cars in bits. They probably are not insured, even though they pay for house contents and for a car laid up policy.

i have to say peter james insurance has been brilliant and best value for money. they even do multi vehicle cover & so we added a midget (MG variety) to the policy .Agreed valuation of your vehicle thru the lotus club is recommended & only costs a tenner and a few good pics. I presume they'll extend this service to SORNed vehicles .
motto of story is ; pull yer finger out and get it on the road !

As I said the ley is to talk to your insurers - if they know about it and you have in writing then there should not be a problem. If they refuse to cover it then there is a problem!!
