Son of Twinc?

I see from a piece in last weekend's Telegraph Motoring section that, starting in 2013, F1 engines will be 1600cc four cylinder designs. Now why does that configuration ring a bell? Maybe it's all part of Lotus' plans for world (of F1) domination; in addition to gradually having all F1 teams include Lotus as part of their title, they've also contrived to make the twin-cam the engine of choice for all teams - provided that is that they've found a way of increasing its power output by a factor of six.

I've wondered about this new engine capacity limit & what the makers will be able to screw out of 1600cc.
Back in the 80's the turbo engines were limited to 1500cc but competitors at the time found massive amounts of power.
Those must have been the fastest F1 days ever, using side skirts & masses of downforce!
e.g. BMW got 1100 BHP, well at least for qualifying.
If no form of turbo/supercharging is permitted then I can envisage F1 losing it's "premier formula" title & public interest pretty quickly.
Cheers
John

If only they could achieve a decent tickover on one of those I might consider dropping one in my Plus2...

No.... I did not know what F1 was. Now I have remembered- it's that procession of seven "cars" which replaced Grand Prix races after they started putting advertising stickers all over the place.
Cheers,
Pete.

Pete, your avatar is obviously some new Lotus model that you have knowledge of, any idea of its performance, price, when it will be put into production and its Lotus designated Type number? have you tested it? ....or is it just a prototype or styling exercise?
