L reg green +2 in Liverpool

PostPost by: slimromeo » Wed Dec 15, 2010 9:24 pm

I was driving through South Liverpool and noticed a L reg green +2 parked in a mechanics garage. it had a bonnet bulge and i think it was a british racing green. to be honest i have only seen 1 other (red) elan in liverpool in the past 5 years. just wondered if anyone knows the car or have a elan in liverpool?

Hi Slim,
You may not be an old fart like me but you might be interested to know that there used to be a Lotus dealer in South Liverpool in the 1970s.
They were on Aigburth Road near the driving test centre. Last time i passed that way it was an ATS depot.
They were called Mayfield Motors or Mayfield Garage. Later they became Saab dealers.
I bought my first Elan from them. A 3 year old, one owner Gold Leaf Sprint.
I think i paid ?2100!!!! happy days.

Thanks

Hi Franco,
I now own a 65 Elan S2. It is the fourth Elan i have owned.

I am new to this forum but I regularly see two baby Elans around Wirral, one in green and one blue over white.
What have you got? Ken.

hi ken,

i have a 72 black/gold roof +2 130s, i bought it in 2005 and started restoring the car about 3 years ago, it is nearly finished now just waiting for the guy in the body shop to get back off his holiday. should be on the road begining of next year, its my first lotus to be honest, my dad always had a classic car when i was growing up (TR6's), i had a MGB GT for a short while then i bought a Lancia Fulvia which i adored but so did the rust. I bought the lotus without knowing anything about them which is not a good idea but this forum has helped me out a lot, just can't wait to get on the road!

Ken

The Green elan on the Wirral may well be mine. EMA7K is a DHC lotus racing green and has been with me since 1980. I also have a Yellow Elan +2. This is a Zetec car and has only been with e since 2007. I am also an old fart and car remember a lotus dealer in Thursaston on the Wirral in the 1970's. Its now a child care centre.

Best regards

Hi Gareth,
I remember the dealer in Thustaston. 'Derelliot Conversions.'
I bought a few bits from them. They were later Maserati dealers. I remember a Merak in the showroom.

Amazingly enough at the same time there was another Lotus dealer just a couple of miles away in Caldy. H.E. Russell I think it was. When they were closing down I got a few bargains such as brake discs. It is now a BMW specialist.

I dont think I have seen your cars around. The green Elan I mentioned is Pistachio Lime Green I think.

I also occasionaly see a yellow Europa and a few fwd Elans around Wirral.

Ken

I use my elans regularly, even through the winter, although not in this snow. The yellow Europa you mention I also see around Bebington where I live. My Sprint is Cheshire born and has spent all its life on the Wirral. I also had a Cheshire born +2 that lived all it's life in Willaston until I bought it in 2002. I sold it in 2006 (replaced it with a modern) but missed it and bought the Zetec+2 in 2007. Ema (the Sprint) has been with me since 1980.

Best regards

Thats probably me!

When I first bought my Sprint in the 1980s Cubleys at Ainsdale was the nearest Lotus dealer.

Hello Everyone,

Noticed we have a mention, I am John Elliott the partner of Derek Morrissey, oweres of Dereliott Conversions in Thurstaston, Wirral.

I still have loads of old Lotus stuff from new brochures to manuals and a few spare parts. and of course all the special tools. I hope to sort out a web site soon showing photo's etc from those old days.

From those of you who may not remember us, we started in Hoylake where we were Lotus Service Dealers then moved to Thurstaton and became Main Dealers, we were also Main dealers for TVR and Scimiter and later took on Maserati and De-Tomaso. We opened a branch in Llandudo Junction where we also held a main Lancia dealership.

Hi John and welcome.

It would be excellent to see some of your period photos from the Elan and +2 era. Thanks for offering to do so.

Hello Derek, I remember your dealership in Thurstaston very well. I bought quite a few parts from you for my 73 Sprint ( long ago sold)
I dont suppose you would have a service voucher book for a 65 S2 Elan amongst your stuff would you?
