Is it just me...?

 Here is a completely shot car that needs everything and the opening bid is $12,000. Am I off base that this is overpriced or has the market moved that much?

Ross, its not you.

The seller has deluded himself into thinking he has a gold mine and there is someone out there who is willing to pay for it.

I know of one similar to this, in similar shape and actually runs, but not driveable. She is the original owner and wants $7000. She has had it up for sale here in the Bay Area for more than 6 years and it still sits in her garage as a mouse nest.

Happy Lotusing!

"actually runs, but not driveable. She is the original owner and wants $7000. "

If you're able to do things yourself, and don't have to pay thru the nose for someone else to do it , that sounds like a good price for an early Elan.

Doesn't it ?
Or is it just me ?

Ralph.

must be a different market to Australia, I would have thought the $7K car was a bargain, even in parts it must be worth that. The $12K starter may not get much more than $12K but again if basically complete must be worth that I would have thought.
as far as I can see the more they get the better it is for us all :)

Well Ross,

A 50 year old, near original Elan, has to be something of a rarity. But as ever, the market will deceide what it is worth. If he doesnt get a bid, then currently, the car is not worth the money asked. If a number of guys want to slug it out, then its worth what they want to go to.

Not off base at all, Ross. I'm not an early Elan guy but ....vertical grain on the dash?

I wonder what the widow thinks of the starting price. He clearly knows bugger all about Loti and so probably bought it on an opportunistic whim...down the starting price will go at the next auction!
I am now an ex-Elan owner but will drop by from time to time with some suitably inappropriate comments.

Dan,

Send me the contact info of the original owner car , if its a running all there type 26 I have it on a trailer in about a week.

The yellow car makes me sad..... especially the way its been dragged into the current location by a (fork) truck of some description. it's still worth saving but.....

George,

My sentiments exactly. Couldn't they have at least aired up the tires and cleaned the engine bay? I guess I'm surprised at the amount of rust and corrosion for a southern California car. And Greg, that vertical grain isn't even real wood is it? If this were priced appropriately, some Lotuseer with a soft spot in his heart and more time and skill than I have could save it. But if the initial cost is too high, then as Dan says, it will sit six more years as a mouse nest. That is a shame.

Then in complete contrast...http://bringatrailer.com/2010/03/24/ful ... lan-coupe/

This one is BEAUTIFUL!!!
