Elan Magazine Articles - Spotted a New Issue?

I have only just picked up and read the August Octane. There is a good article on British Sports Cars, where an Elan S4 SE is pitched against a TVR 450SE, a MGC, an Elise, an AC Ace, a TR6 and a 1930 Frazer Nash with a 328 BMW engine.
So, how did the Elan do? 'One of the finest sports cars to come out of Britain'; 'It is a tremendous little sports car that is so rewarding to drive'. They concluded 'The Elan is probably the best all-rounder here, combining uncanny handling with a ground-covering ability that bellies its small capacity yet willing engine'. However, Robert Coucher the editor, who wrote the article, decided that the car he really wanted to take home was the Frazer Nash and I wouldn't half mind one myself!

Absolutely brilliant article, especially as it was a red S4 DHC (same as mine). Octane just keeps getting better and better. I subscribed about a year ago because it was 3 issues for ?3 and I wasn't planning to keep it going because I already subscribe to evo but I 'forgot' to cancel the direct debit instruction so now I get both. In fact I must be turning into a bit of an old man, at 31, because I've considered canceling evo. I find I don't read it cover to cover anymore and the electric car issue was a step too far for me. I respect the fact that they have to keep up with the times but maybe I don't care anymore and the automotive industry has produced it's best. After all, the best front wheel drive car was designed in 1996, and the best affordable (as in under ?250,000) rwd car in 1962 (according to evo and me anyway!).

The March edition of Practical Classics has an article on Elan Vs Eunos Vs Elise test driven at the Lotus track. Just saw the mag on the shelf at the newsagents - too miserly to buy it though - so no idea if it's worth a read or not. Maybe someone has read it ??

I was not aware of this this thread when I started this one:
http://www.lotuselan.net/forums/free-parking-f19/elans-magazines-new-magazines-that-t23022.html
Now if we had a Moderator, he could merge the two...
I've skimmed the piece in C&SC today; I expect that it will be very competently written because James Elliott is one of the biggest fans of the Elan that I know; his S2 has now gone and he has a +2. I'll read it properly on a deserted beach at Arisaig next week!
Ten pages plus a front cover is not bad... "Best Sports Car Ever" it says.
Harrumph- I've spotted the words "b*by Elan" and "Colin Chapman's masterpiece"; I do hope that it properly credits the real designer of the Elan in the body of the text.

Salut
In France this month:
Retroviseur May 2012
A side by side comparison - not a competition as the 1600 S Alpine was a pure rally car. The most suitable translation to 'Francs-tireurs' is 'Maverick'.
and:
Autoretro June 2012
The Elan won out on performance and handling, the MX-5 on comfort and maintenance.
In Autocollector January 2011:
Also in the French Octane this month (or last) which I didn't buy.

It did not land; it's now on the moon.

Thanks, one tries one's best! I was going to put some stuff about dragon-milking at the Castle but I thought better of it!
Cheers,
Pete.

Issue 3 July 2012 of the Club Lotus rag is particularly good; there is a humorous piece on the three Castles Rally in an Elan by one of our ouw: The Great Jim Jackson; good description of hanging the Elan door correctly by Brian Buckland in the Elan Section pages and the first part of "A Look at Unusual Elans" by some bloke called Tim Wilkes. There is a small feature on the well-known Ian Walker Rally 26/R 26-S2-33.
Can't wait for part2 which features the "works" rally Elan. Ian Walker Rally 26/R.
Incidentally, long-time Elan-owning journo Julian Balme is publishing a book about Ian Walker's cars; it was due to be out by now but has been slightly delayed. I have placed my order.
