Hi all,
As I approach my late youth (almost 60) I am having a little trouble remembering some things, when I was about 17/18 I worked in a garage in the UK in Surrey, we assembled some Elan kit cars for some customers, one in particular was a rev head and changed cars very often indeed, I seem to recall him having a MK 1 Escort with a V6 was I dreaming?? if I was I changed the spark plugs in my dream and remember it was a tad difficult although not as bad as replacing engine mounts on a Mini. I have googled escort V6 and have drawn a blank....has my rampant imagination planted false memories??

Extract from old advert , sorry no picture on the web site ........
1970 Ford Escort Superspeed. NEW TYPE 49 TWIN CAM ESCORT modified by Superspeed Conversions of Ley Street Ilford to take 136bhp V6 Zodiac 2993cc engine and sold as new with Ford Guarantee. Very quick, Superspeed claimed 0-60 in 6.3 seconds and 129mph, Autocar's (29/05/69) '15 Hot Escorts' track test obtained 0-60 of 7.2 seconds with a new car not run in and a standing quarter of 15.6 seconds.
The car is completely restored with photo history approximately 5000 miles ago. All new Ford panels on shot blast shell. The engine has approximately 190bhp and the car has four pot callipers and electric fans for modern road conditions.
The car was featured in Sept 2000 Classic and Sportscar and Oct 2003 Classic Ford. It's very quick on the road and track and superb fun to drive. Only a handful produced on the type 49 shell and even fewer remain.
