Most users ever online was 186 on Sat Feb 02, 2002 4:23 pm

The above is a snapshot of the bottom of the elan.net main screen page. The question in my mind "Who" is the Hidden user and "Why" would someone with an anonomous username need to hide who they are? Are we being spyed on or does someone have some real issues?

Sometimes I don't sleep well and at 2:00am have a bit of time on my hands, when theres no new messages I look to see "who online", kind of a habit from my VMS system mangler days at Digital Equipment. Is that a bad thing?

The annonomous user population seems to be growing, I am going to have to see how this hidden user thing works when you go to post a new topic or a reply. Less see here, if I am hidden user and post a topic, can the other hidden user see the topic? oh wait a minute silly me, no one reads this trash anyway except the spybots.

The anonymous spectators are working on a plan to buy up barn-find Elans and make terrorist detainees restore them. That'll make 'em confess.

Gary,
My consulting gig is in the Clock Tower mill complex in Maynard. The ghosts of VMS manglers are everywhere!

I started my Digital career in the Mill (bldg 5) in Nov. 1977, and met my wife-to-be in a PDP-11 class early the next year. VAX and VMS were just a-borning then, and many of the buildings were much as they had been in the 1800's - the remains of power transmission shafts and pulleys overhead, lanolin oozing from the floors where wool had been stored over the decades.
