Changing from Vista to Windows 7

PostPost by: GrUmPyBoDgEr » Sat Jul 18, 2009 8:17 am

I've downloaded the Windows 7 free trial but am waiting for a mate to help with installing it.
Do you guys have any experience of the new system?
I just hope it's better than Vista.

Cheers
John

John,

I have 7 installed on my laptop, dual-booting with Vista Ultimate.
It's stable and quick, so better than Vista.
Some useful new features too.

I don't yet connect to the net with it because Zonealarm hadn't issued a compatible version.

However, they have now released a beta version which I installed yesterday.
It crashed my laptop, and now I can't boot into 7 !!
Brilliant. More work to do.

Take my advice, and make sure your friend dual boots it for you so that Vista will still work if you get problems.
Also beware that you cannot upgrade to the licenced version.........you have to do a clean install.

If you like it, you can pre-order and get a discount.

Pm me if you need help or further info.

Regards,
Stuart.

Thanks a lot for that Stuart,

My tame computer mate has just left; he also recommended the dual boot & retaining Vista as back up.
I also asked him about the version that could be bought because after all I'd have to dig into my pocket in the future anyway.
This prompted him to see what the Forums were saying.
Luckily he found that there have been a few problems found with the download version. That evidence was sufficient for us to decide to wait until the final version comes onto the market. The version that went on sale was only a limited number of licences which are already sold out.
So Vista it is until sometime next year

Cheers
John

It's been raining all day here & I've just come indoors after fixing a flat tyre on my computer mates BMW.
A Mac would have been handy.

Is it compatible with Rapidfile and Supercalc 2? Will it work on my Dragon?

No, no.

Has to be compatible with WordStar, VisiCalc, Ventura Publisher Beta.

I still have the original discs of Windows I, free from MicroSoft (I had written a lot of enhancements for the original MS Mouse driver, and MS sent me free software into the '90s.
