The Tick is in the box but....

PostPost by: GrUmPyBoDgEr » Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:43 am

Hi,

I've asked this question before & didn't understand the explanations.
It's the feature that sends you an e-mail when a reply has been written on a thread you've been watching.
For a very long time now this feature refuses to work for me.
How can I re-activate it please?
Step by step for a computer idiot would be good.
Cheers
John

Well I did give that another looking at but under
"Board preferences"
"Edit posting defaults"
There is only a box for "Notify me of new private messages"

I cannot locate the box that informs me of new posts on threads I want to watch.
I do get messages when PM's are there but none when new posts on threads appear.

John, you might have clicked on "edit global settings", which is where my "notify me of new private messages' box exists.
Below the "edit global settings" is the "edit posting results".

Thanks Greg,

Yes that's where I went wrong & following your advice I've found the right address.
However the saga continues because all of the ticks are in the right box.
Is there some way of tricking the system into working again?
e.g. Do I need to de-activate & re-activate with some sort of time span?

Cheers

Have you tried deleting all of the cookies for lotuselan.net ? This at least will reset your browser to a clean state, as if you have never logged in from that PC.

Make sure that you have a note of your password before you delete cookies, because you will be prompted again to login.

Hi thanks for that advice.
Well I tried something else yesterday:-
Took the tick out of the box, logged off, logged back on again, put tick in the box, logged off & logged back on again.
That didn't work.

Q1:- Does the forum still have this feature activated?
Q2:- Do you receive e-mails informing you of new postings?
Q3:- Does it inform you of all new postings or just replies to your own postings?
Q4:- How to I go about deleting cookies?

I told you I was helpless

Cheers

Q1: Yes
Q2: Yes
Q3: Only replies to my postings, and that's all I want, but there may be an option for new postings; don't know though
Q4: Along the top, there is 'files edit view favorites tools help'. Go to tools, then options and on the 'general' page there is a 'browsing history' area and in the area is a button to delete cookies. This is for Internet Explorer 7 but very similar for other Internet Explorer versions. As Paddy says, make note of your passwords, as you will need them for signing in again because deleting cookies deletes automatic sign in's.

Hi Greg,

thanks, that took a bit of finding but I discovered "Delete all board cookies" at the bottom of the home page.
So that job's done & I'm re-logged in again.
Suppose it's wait & see again.

Cheers

Are you sure the email address they're going to is live/correct? When there is a PM do you get notiifcation emails?

Hi Paddy,

no I don't know if the e-mail address is correct.
I wouldn't know how to check that being such a --------!!!)
I had big problems getting on to the forum when I moved to this lap top & address last Autumn; it's since then that the notifications stopped working for me.
Jeff Cocking got my account working for me again but perhaps not 100%
No I don't get PM notifications either & the tick is in the box there as well.
Methinks you have a devious plan
We'll get to the bottom of this, I'm sure :)

Cheers
John
