I think I should add a pic of the untidiest Elan of all, that of my friend Bryan in which he and I scorched up the M1 to Donington on Saturday while my S3 Coupe languishes in cylinder headless pieces. Bryan's other old cars are temples of perfection but he wants to keep the Elan as it is because it's a piece of automotive archaeology. It has original (and ghastly) paint, a full history from day one including the build inspection certificate and every tank of fuel, and it drives beautifully. I give him two years max before he caves in and has the body done, but mechanically it's spot-on: new chassis in 1982 and little use since, and a QED engine rebuild.

Bryan has had several Elans before, all immaculate, and he used to race one which started life as an S4 coupe but, following an accident, was rebuilt as a virtual Sprint dhc. It currently languishes at a sports car emporium in Kent.

Great day on Saturday. Two highlights for me were seeing how busy Susan Miller's stand was, showing that there's lots of interest in our cars, and the drive back in which I drove Bryan's car the backroad route from the M1/A43 junction to Berkhamsted. May I commend the A413 between the A43 and Buckingham, which hardly ever seems to have much traffic. A perfect Elan road.

Hey John- you think that one is untidy? Back in the 70's I nearly bought one from Chris Neil's which had three wheels and a wooden crutch.

Thanks to everyone for posting Donington (only three "n"s, btw) photos; I was scheduled to go but ran out of brownie points.

That last car (red, just above this post) looks interesting. The steering wheel and chrome gauges say S2 but the glove compartment says S1 ? Or were they all a bit random in these detals? Does anyone here own it?

I will , Paul .
Next year should be the year for "OEW" ... if Donnninngtonn stay around this date .
Because I don't want to do it alone I still need to convince myself , son , brother and friends that it is the best to do .
Drive across is at least 3 long journeys trip and a need a minimum of preparation . Not as usual.
But for the price of the "Untidiest piece of Elan archeology", this must be great fun.
