Hi Matt. I made Castle Coombe in my FHC elan (the red roller skate) I was not sure I could fit it in but did make it. Where have all the Elans and plus two`s gone? , I doubt if there was 20 of each there.
Dissapointing there were no `stalls` there I do like to browse, I don`t do the track laps, to old and to slow!!. Anyway it was a sunny day and we did 160 miles round trip.
Regards John.

I had a great day
I managed to get the Elan up to 90 MPH on the staight and the car did the 200 mile round trip flawlesly
Shame about the poor turn out of elans
There were more 1960s Elites on the track than Elans !

It was a nice day and although there was a scattering of Europas, Elans and Plus Twos it was a very different paddock to the one I saw on my first Castle Combe trip as a younster in 1987 where the field was awash with beautiful older Lotuses no doubt long since chewed to bits by the voracious jaws of fleabay. I recently found the prints I took on that day.
Never mind, let's keep looking after our cars and and perhaps there are far more out there nestling away in garages than last Saturday's turnout suggested.
If anyone has managed to scan in pictures taken at Castle Combe in the late eighties or earlier it would be great to see them.

Pics herewith,

I think one of the reasons that this event has been pretty naff in the past few years is because of the date they choose. For two years in a row now they have booked the castle coombe day on the same day as major race and hillclimb events - most noteby the Prescott event, where the Paul Matty champs are running... so I saw plenty of lotus's and some very rare ones too, but not at Castle Combe !
If anyone has not been to see the PM hillclimb champs, make sure you catch them this season, it's a great field, some great racing, and a great day out.
