what's your "DREAM GARAGE"

PostPost by: 1964 S1 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 3:07 am

There's a ridiculous fun thread on LotusBuzz.com..... name the five cars you'd most like to see in your (Large) garage.

mine were,,,

streetworthy original Ford GT 40
1964 S1 Lotus Elan
Peugeot 505 turbo stick
Peugeot 905 Le Mans race car
Toyota Prius

....only one Lotus! (I guess a 23 could squeeze out the Prius or 505)

Would anyone like to share their list?

My 5 would be:

1933 Frazer Nash TT Replica with Blackburne engine
1935 Bugatti Type 59 with 3.3 litre 8 cylinder engine
1969 Aston Martin DB6 MkII Vantage, modernised for daily driving now
1972 Dino 246 GTS
and of course, the Elan Sprint!

That was fun! :)

Elan ( of any type but my historic racing FHC S4 is hard to beat)
PLus 2S 130/5
Early Esprit
Exige
S3 twin cam seven
Totota Landcruiser ( you need something reliable to go and pick up spare parts and to tow them to the track)

I know thats six but I only have 2 more to go. An original S3 twin cam seven is going to be the hardest to find as only a couple in Australia

regards

Mr. Kelly mentioned the Banks Europa in his list.

Richard is a good friend of mine and I've had 2 of his cars.

A gold leaf 62S (which Top Gear kindly wrote off for me  ) and this 47R........both had tuned VX 16V motors and were totally bullet proof.
It was funny driving around in an "old" car that would suck an Exige up its exhaust.

The performance of these cars was absurd........they were equally as quick off the line as my HPC but would leave it for dead on twisty bits.

If by chance the chap in Scotland who bought my 47 frequents these forums give me a call one day please as I'd like to know how car is going.

Kenny,

I remember seeing that car at the Donington show years ago. quite unique with the engine fitted transversly. Richard had a super display ther that year. It started me on a similar project which I later abandoned due to cost & lack of time.
I agree those cars have phenominal potential but they do cost a lot

You are totally correct, I had it at Donny in amongst a display of other 47's including an original.
Also correct is the fact that it was the first of the transverse cars.
It utilised the Astras F20 gearbox as opposed to my inline 62 which used the old NG3 Renault box.
I felt that with the engine sitting more centrally the car was a better drive than the inline car.

The one achilles heal of the transverse set up was its gear change.......it was a rather fluffy change in all gears and reverse could easily be selected as opposed to first.......you had to be careful pulling away at lights

Richard developed a bespoke rose jointed linkage system which was fitted to the car when I sold it.........I was informed it worked superb and would have loved to drive it then.

The only problem with that car was heat........with an engine touching your back and fixed perspex windows you used to get to you destination smelling like a Turkish wrestlers jockstrap.

Out of interest I spoke with Richard recently and the variants of engines he's now fitted to these cars is staggering...........his latest offering has a Smart as in Smart car engine fitted so I was told
