Historic Racing or other Lotus Events in Europe

PostPost by: rgh0 » Tue May 22, 2007 12:02 pm

I am spending 6 weeks staying in Germany near Frankfurt and travelling around Europe from mid June to end July on holidays, I am hoping to catch a few historic race meeting or other Lotus related events in order to manage my Lotus addiction while away ( eye rolling from my wife who tolerates my addiction very well)

Any suggestions on things worth travelling to see would be appreciated. A 500 or 1000 km drive for an event is not unusual for us Australians so really anywhere in that sort of radius from Frankfurt for a few hours of Lotus I would be interested in

cheers

Hi Rohan,

would like to have met you here during your visit to "the antipodes" but will be back in Germany by then.

22-24 June Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This is the most publicised & televised Historic car event in the UK
Lots of cars, people & atmosphere (I'm told)

24 June Classic Sports Car championship races (HSCC)
Mallory park.
Good club atmosphere. Good vantage points for spectating.

27-29 July Silverstone Classic (a not so snobby Goodwood type of event & cheaper, sorry, my oppinion) Lots of car club stands including Lotus. Owners can park their cars in allocated areas within the circuit.
Hundreds of lovely road cars to look at apart from the competing cars. Lots of good racing.
Not to be missed.
I'm really going to miss not being able to attend this year.

Apart from that, a bit thin on the ground at that time of year for some reason.

Cheers
John

Thanks guys for the information

24 th June is a little too early - We need to spend the first weekend catching up with relatives, they may not understand us disappearing the first couple of days we arrive to go to a race meeting unfortunately.

28th July to late as we fly out a couple of days before to come home.

Anything in between ???

cheers

Rohan,

check out the following websites:-

HSCC (Historic Sports Car Club)

VSCC (Vintage " " " )

"Masters"

They all organise a number of very good race meetings throughout GB

Whilst your there, try the German wines they're nice. The beer's pretty good too (hic!)

I'm returning to Munich next week, taking plenty of bacon, Cheddar cheese & Branston pickle with me
I will miss the club racing scene here in GB

Have a good Holiday
John

July 15 is an open day at Prodrive who build the rally Subarus and the Le Mans Astons.

These sites have event calendars:

A pity that you can't make Mallory Park on June 24 as it should be a good day of classic racing. I will be there on the bank at Devil's Elbow.

Steve,

are you the Yellow S4 Coupe that regularly parks opposite the bridge to the paddock area?
I've been parking my blue S4 just before the entry into Goddards.

Cheers
