I loved the Mk1 GT - only for the dash layout and gear lever position! In 1970, I drove one from Perth in Western Australia up to Darwin in the wet season! This was in the days when the road was only metalled up to Broome! The car took everything in its stride...one of my favourites indeed!

My father's Mk1 he bought new in 1965 as our family car. These pictures were taken in the late 1970's (when were the revised number plates introduced?). I had the pleasure of passing my driving test in this car

Ha! Yes Rob, he had also (not at the same time!) an Elan S2 and a Mk1 3.0 Capri as company cars (his boss was a Petrolhead and encouraged interesting choices).

I recall the tester was utterly disinterested and necessity of the test required my youthful exuberance to be rev limited!
