Hello Gents
Haven't done much for 6 months due to Covid shielding, but thought i'd investigate the latest thinking on knock on spinner adaptor tools.
I want to use a torque wrench, and avoid wheel paint / spinner damage at all costs.
Advice / info please?
cheers
Bob

There are few threads on here that cover this and at one time Sarto (member) did a pair of leather lined cups for torque wrench use.
Not sure if still available.
Google search on lotus spinner tool reveals more info.
More recent results (2019) suggest that trying 'wheelwidget' will get an email address for UK made supplier.

Hi Bob,

I bought a Spinner Removal Tool from Lionel on eBay, it is very well finished, strong, fits like a glove and no more wincing when you have to beat the heck out of the spinners!

LionelSpinner.JPG and

- here are his current listings if you want to contact him:

I have a couple of these and I like the idea of being able to set the torque by handle length and body weight. But I tried using an oak drift against my spinners and it feels like the perfect solution. So, small sledge, oak drift, easy tightening. John

+1

I've obtained an octogonal nut adapter from Lionel a while back : very good tool for a very competitive price, so the quality/cost ratio is hard to beat imho (no affiliation, just a satisfied customer)

This is just an alternative thought, but if the problem is damage to wheels when clouting the spinner with a hammer (you are using lead or hide or copper hammer of course!), then a simple shield is the answer - a piece of correx plastic about 14" square with a slot cut out to fit behind the spinner is all that is required.

Wickes and B&Q sell 8'x4' sheets of correx as floor protection for about £4 and when you have made a couple of shields the remaining piece makes a great surface for crawling under the car.

Bash away to you heart's content and no damage to paint on wheels!

I just use a dead blow hammer and if I think my aim may be off hold a piece of carpet or cardboard near the wheel.
(dead blow hammers are plastic shielded, and really need not bash the bejesus out of knock offs)

Agreed it's easy to overtighen - I did last year and after a summer season the self tighten effect had made them so tight I had to use a lump hammer as neither a lead hammer nor my usual hide hammer wouldn't touch them!
