Hi there, Apologies if this has been covered before but.....just bought a Girling brake and clutch master cylinder metal cap removal tool - brilliant!! Every Elan (Lotus) owner should have one. Cap removal/replacement now a two minute job with carbs etc left in situ.

They also do a version for plastic caps.

i use rubber gardening gloves, gives plenty of grip. Works very well for me

Coupe, with that amount of space you don't need one!

With the early Elan, at least, the brake master is between the two Weber bodies and with all the stuff under there there's hardly room to move the tool one notch. It seems erenTEK do an early and late cap tool.

I've used one for a couple of years and it certainly makes access to the fluid reservoirs easier. It works pretty well, but if the metal, old-style, Girling brake cap is on too tight the tool just won't budge it.

I guess the moral is? don't over tighten it!

I have one for the st,d Girling caps & I find it does not work for me as the caps are so very soft.

I am happy to sell it on for a Fiver and postage will be minimal as its so light.

The fiver will go to Prostate cancer uk...

I like to stock "things" !

I used it and found it very helpful to unscrew the bigger cap hidden under the backplate of the airbox.
Space is so tight that you cant grab with your hand the cap.
the tool allow to capture the cap and unscrew it.

PS: for the picture I put the tool around the small cap, which was not really necessary.

Great find well done, love the look of the tool sand that will work very well with the plastic caps.

I have the original metal caps which are very soft, I bought an aluminum one and it needs to be about 3/8" to 1/2" thick so as not to damage the cap as this does.

The use of the rubber glove is a great suggestion.
