I don't know if this subject belongs here but I can't see a better place for it...

I am going to have a clear out,bags of old taps/dies,I have a lot of Whitworth BSF etc.etc.

Which do I need to keep?

I know the UNF,UNC and BSP are used on the Lotus and looking towards the future I will keep the Metric..what others are used and where on the Lotus (Plus2)??

Probably to make/modify and oil pressure pipe fitting for a Supercharger or Turbo you are proposing to fit

When you say "clear out" I really hope you will find good homes for those old taps & dies.
Regardless of condition they are becoming rarer by the year.
If you can't find owners of old British cars or Bikes to place them with, there will be dealers who will no doubt be pleased to relieve you of them.
Yes I think the ones you have chosen to keep will cover your needs with any Lotus above the Mk's 1;2;3 & 4

BA are still quite common
BSW and UNC are the same pitch but different angle 55/60 so BSW make good thread cleaners.

You will regret it the first time you need one!

except for 1/2" dia where the pitch is different

Some time ago I inherited a set of BSF and BSW taps and dies from my Father. I was having the same quandary as you, tempered with some sentimental value. As usual I ummed and arred for so long I didn't make a decision. However I have just purchased a project car that is littered with BS threads so I am now pleased I didn't make that decision.

My recommendation is to hang on to them, you never know what will happen next.

Wow, Whitworth.

Now there's something you don't hear about every day. I have some old Whitworth tools around here somewhere. I haven't thought about them in years. They are probably in the same box with some old Ford Model T tools I got from my grandfather.

I think Whitworth is very similar to UNC, differing in thread shape.

I have a huge collection of taps and dies going right down to 0.3mm diameter watchmaking stuff.

Believe me, they are generally worth so little when you want to sell them as an odd lot, and worth so much when you need one, that if you really feel the need to sell some then only sell the duplicates.

Remembering back to my apprentice days. British Standard Brass threads are all 26 TPI.
