Hi Guys,

Has anyone noticed the neat little tool for removing the Girling Master cyl' caps on our cars that has been for sale recently?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181023440944? ... 1497.l2649

Have not tried it yet but looks ideal to me. It will be tested soon and I will report back. (no connections etc etc)

Happy Xmas and new year to you all.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago.

I'll keep it in the glove box.

Saves the knuckles!

I find the old angle-grinder and axe method never fails. [ Sorry, I'll get my coat ]

I have tried a couple of 'things'... Last tried was a rubber jar opener. Failed! Thought I would give this little spanner a go as only checking (between fluid changes) when the carbs are off is just not a good idea & I just can't move them by hand most times. Arthritis etc.... :?

Have you tried it yet AlfaLofa? Report on my desk first thing Monday.

Originality does bring with it it's problems!

No special tools needed here but perhaps this solution was not quite so inexpensive?

I too have ordered one, it looks very neat! I have been using 2 jubilee clips (set at appropriate size) which I pop over the caps, tighten (possible with air box off) then push with screwdriver or tap top of same with hammer (care needed and clip just tight enough). So hopefully looking forward to a more straight forward fluid check regime!!

Not the best of news Guys..

I have now tested the little tool and I have to report disappointing results. I had the carbs off recently for a do up and tried it then. It failed to release the caps. Both of them. I found that the tool is very thin and just rounded all the points off the flats very easily. I now have another two mangled caps. :?

I had to resort to plan B to remove the caps (Jub' clips), and got them off ok. So I managed to change the fluids and clean up the cyl' threads etc before refitting the said caps after lubing with a slight smear of brake grease.

Bugger! .... Back to the drawing board.
