HT Lead Crimping tool - Recommendations?

Looking for a recomendation for a suitable crimping tool.

Hi Simon,

Are you using the old copper cored wire or the modern silicone leads ?

I ask because I've just made up some leads for my car and didn't need any special tooling other than a pair of pliers & a soldering iron. I used copper cored wire with NGK 90deg screw-on resistor caps for the plug leads, and a standard brass terminal for the coil lead which I just soldered into place before pushing on the waterproof cover. The distributor ends are all screwed in place, or by any chance do you have a different distributor cap ?

Brian, yes copper core. I have several sets to make for different cars. I had the screw in fittings - for one set are too big for the rubber covers on that engine.

I have all the bits just need a good crimping tool.

Elanern, looks like what I need. need a recommendation for the UK.

Hi,
I use one this one from Vehicle Wiring products http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/htterminals/htterminals.php#crimping and it seems to work well.

I make mine using silicon lead, be careful using the copper cored and crimp on ends as I believe you'll have no suppression and may not be that popular with your neighbours!

I think you'll have enough suppression with the resistive caps (the NGK ones I have are quoted as 5K) it's only if you used the plain brass crimp on ends in a rubber housing which are normally used on the modern silicone/etc leads on a copper cored wire that would make an unsuppressed lead ?

Bumble Bee copper core leads.

And I use an inline suppressor on the coil lead, if that doesn't have the desired effect then resistive plugs.
