The Morris 1000 had a similar design in as much as the trunnions are threaded, but grease is the recommended lubricant. In my youth I had a Morris1000 and looked after 4 more for friends and family, we only had one failure (my dads first van, very second hand) getting grease into the trunnions was very difficult but once achieved, one pump from a grease gun every two weeks kept everything moving smoothly.
On the subject of oil or grease, perhaps Triumph had seen the problems Morris had with grease and reasoned that oil was more likely to reach the far extremities of the threaded trunnions.

If you drink German beer and you are in Worms, you can go to the “Oktoberfest” and have a “Maß” together with a “Haxe”. I've already done that once. It's a bit too far away for me at the moment. About the same distance as from Worms.
