Morning all,

As part of NZ compliance checks I will need to provide factory data on disc thickness's and wear limits.

Anybody know what they are, I have a 71 +2.

thanks

Hi Street,
Had a look at my Elan S4 Workshop Manual. Mentions disc diameter, no thickness specs. Assume that the Plus 2 Manual would be the same.
Here is a discussion concerning disc thicknesses. First link at top of page. Mention is made of minimum disc thickness being written on inner disc. Have never seen this myself.

Also, if you look at this page from EBC, they list new thickness, and Minimum thickness.

Cheers,
Colin.

Our cars were built before discs became a sacrificial part of the disc brake system, (before asbestos ban) therefore I doubt if you will find a definitive or authoritative answer.

Most discs I've seen have the wear limit on the disc. On my Brembo discs the info is on the outer edge. On originals, I recall the wear limit was on the "unmachined" center part of the disk.

My S4 replacement front discs, obtained from one of the usual Lotus suppliers, were stamped on the edge .. the rears from the same source were not marked.

I cannot find anything in the workshop manual but there are dimensions quoted in Brian Bucklands book, see below.

This is just about readable, I think it says min disc thickness, .325 inch to .230.

This photo was when they were removed. They are stored somewhere but not to hand just yet.

Regards
Richard
