Rear A frame bushes

I've got the rear A frames out ready to fit new poly bushes. The old rubber bushes pressed out in a vice ok but left the steel outer sleeves in the A frame. What is the best way to get these out? Obviously the new poly bushes won't fit with them in.
Is it a job for a machine shop, or can it be done at home? if so, what have you found to be the best method?
Thanks, Andy.

With a long 5/16 bolt, some metal plate and strong washers, and a socket or heavy tube the right diameter, you can easily make a puller. The socket/tube needs to be big enough to receive the bush as it is removed, the washers on the other side small the right size to force the bush and still slide through the a-frame. This requires a good deal of force, and I found it worked best with an impact driver adding vibration. Grease the threads of the bolt to reduce friction as much as possible, and have a few extra bolts/nuts/washers - things get hot and worn quickly. I also found that letting some kroil or other penetrant soak in and heating up the a-frame with a torch before wrenching made it easier.
The same puller can be used in reverse to pull the new metalastic bushes in.

Thanks, hacksaw method and your (more correct, but potentially more difficult to get right) method to try. They've been in there 50 years, don't see them giving up without a fight!
