Hi all perhaps another option which hasn't been mentioned is Pirelli CN36 which is the original tyre from the period but with modern compounds. I use 175 x70x 13 on my S4.
They are more comfortable than the 60 series R spec tyres used previously and the handling is very very good. Unfortunately they are not cheap but I suspect less than XAS FF and they are tubeless.
Cheers Peter

I had a conversation with Spyder about their driveshaft conversion and the subject of tyres came up. They recommended Uniroyal RainExperts. That's what I'm going to put on my S4.
I have experience with Spyder products and their expertise so I trust this recommendation.

I have 187/70-13 Sprint Classics on my Plus 2. If I was buying again I would check the OD of their 640 95 13” tires

A pressure monitor won't help in an impact failure, as I found when a friend crashed my car and exposed the tube!

Of course impact, which results in a blow out. Similar to hitting any obstacle which changes how your car is behaving.
TPMS can give you warning when a tyre starts to deflate. Did you notice your tyre went down 2psi per minute, its not long before you do.
And the reason they are mandated from 2007.

In the UK they are thankfully not mandated at all! More trouble with false readings than they are worth IMHO.
