Ride height Elan Sprint

PostPost by: Type28 » Sun Aug 30, 2020 11:00 am

I am just back from a 700 mile costal driving holiday in my Elan and nothing broke, worked loose or generally caused an inconvenience, which was great!
Coming out of a couple of oddly cambered car parks ,on a gradient, the front near side wheel rubbed the wheel arch and I was wondering if the front ride height is a bit low? - see pictures , it’s about 22.5 inches from ground level to the underside of arch, it has adjustable spring platforms and is on 185/80 tyres- car handles like a dream- wondering what ride height others are at?

I'd measure ground to the front sill. Should be 6" although I prefer a bit of rake and set at 5.5"
The obvious thing is the tyre size. The body was not designed with 185's in mind

Are those tyres really 185? It says 155 in the photo.

Anyway, St Brian B says 7.5 inches to underside of lower wishbone pivot on chassis at front.

Mike - you have the eyes of an eagle!! 155 should be fine I would have thought.I have 165-70 with an S3 unmodified body. No problems of clearance. If there is I should look elsewhere.

Imho if you want to compare position of Arches it's better to measure to Wheel centre.

from a suspension viewpoint, it is designed to work best with the arms horizontal at rest when adequaletly loaded (driver, prefered fuel level + misc. added company), the manual mentions lower arms height corresponding to that (6"1/4 front, 6" rear) - then as mentioned above tire wall height will have an effect on appearance...
