Equivalent of Alfaholics for Elan Plus 2 ?

PostPost by: DJW » Wed Jun 24, 2020 9:50 am

One of my favourite videos from Chris Harris

https://youtu.be/9BuZmJmpTdk

Are there any outfits out there in the UK that could provide a suspension and brake upgrade to handle like the Alfa in the video above ?

Intrigued ;)

Compared to an Alfa a Lotus needs a lot less work to get to look like that on a track. And incidently driving it like that is not the fast way around a circuit !

Brake upgrades not needed on a Plus 2 - Even if racing just modern competition high coefficient of friction pads are all that's needed.

The suspension just needs stiffer springs and roll bar to compensate for the additional grip that modern track day tyres give but these are not major mods to do. Talk to TTR or Kelvedon for advice or any of the historic racers with one of the 200 26R's remaining and being raced from the 52 originally made

If what to do regular serious track work then other things will break on a Plus 2 just like on an Elan but there are solutions for all the issues and TTR is probably the best source of advice

cheers

Cheers Rohan

Appreciate Harris’s showboating style is for the camera and not lap times ;) Nice to see balance of car though at limits.

Prices make lotus absolute bargains :)

Having had a 105 S2 Spider (the same basis chassis configuration as the Harris step front) I agree the Lotus chassis is infinitely superior.

The rear axle in the 105 looks very sophisticated in the way it's located (trailing arms and a large T bar) but it's live and even in good condition moves about in a rather disconcerting way.

Lovely looking cars though the 105, especially in early 'scalino' step front form

....and don't forget DJW, your car is fitted with TTR stub axles on the rear, TTR competition diff mounts and 110lb rear springs :D
