+2 Wheel spinners

Hi,
I have been having problems with just one spinner repeatedly (but occasionally) coming loose. This is on a corner where I have replaced the wheel carrier with a new one from Paul Mattey. I am torquing them up correctly to 180 foot pounds and only this one corner gives trouble. 16 years ago I swapped my steel wheels for Minilite alloys and while trying to seek reasons for my loosening wheel I noted one line in the Workshop Manual simply saying that the spinners for steel wheels are different from those for alloy wheels and are not interchangeable. Does anyone know what the differences are or has anyone had similar problems? On the old hub and on the other three corners I have had no problem, but this one has given me repeated problems.
Any help would be welcome.

This subject has been done to death on several occasions.

Has some grease been applied to the new hub ? if so I would remove it, and increase the torque a bit (200-220 lb ft)

It is true that there have been many threads on this topic. However it is most probable with your Minilites that the problem results from the knock-on nut bottoming on the thread of the hub before the nut fully fetches up on the wheel. When you say you recently replaced a "wheel carrier" do you mean the hub itself? I would check the height of the end of the threaded section of the new hub above the plane of the surface from which the five drive pegs protrude. I'll wager that this dimension on the replacement hub is greater than the same dimension on your old hub.

Roy,

You have probably tried this already, but, have you changed the nut for the other nut on the same side of the car that does not work loose? This should show you if the problem is with the nut or the hub.

Thanks for the advice. Most areas raised I have already checked out. Though it is marginal, I am satisfied that the spinner is not bottoming out, no grease is applied to the threads, alternative spinners come loose in the same way, the new hub has a slightly shorter threaded section (by just over 2mm and one turn of the tread) than the old one.
My main question was around whether and what is the difference between spinners for steel wheels and Minilites.

Having read most of the earlier threads I can't see this addressed, but I also note that my Minilites date back to a time (2002) when there was reputed to be issues about the stainless steel clamping rings provided with the wheels. It is interesting that this issue has only shown up once a new hub has been fitted. At the moment the wheel is staying tight.

I believe there was some question concerning the length of the drive peg when using a Minilite wheel. Were the drive pegs changed or did the new hub have them fitted? It may be worth checking out any differences.
