Spax - Adjustable rear inserts

I have adjustable rear spax inserts, older ones from Dave Bean. When adjusting for stiffness, the shaft just spins around endlessly giving me no idea where the adjustment is. Is there a limit to the number of turns available? Does the shaft have to be all the way in or out to allow adjustment?
Thanks
Chris

Thanks Mick
I tried that and it didn't seem to make much difference. I expected it to bottom out one way or the other but the shaft seemed to just turn endlessly.

Thank you Urs
The instructional PDF was very helpful. I had been trying to adjust the inserts off the car which allowed the piston to turn. Holding the piston while adjusting solved the problem.
Thanks
