Dashboards & Steering Wheels

PostPost by: r.agnew » Wed Feb 25, 2004 5:22 pm

My dashboard needs some TLC , so before I start with the sander I was wondering did all the Sprints come with straight-grain veneer , or were there some finished in burr walnut like the +2's ? I have seen photos of cars with walnut , but don't know if they were standard or changed later .Also , could somebody please post a shot of the correct steering wheel -- was it the Chapman signature one , or were these only on earlier cars ?

I am fairly sure that all Sprints were originally fitted with straight grain veneer dashboards and that any burr walnut dashes were later enhancements by owners.

For an original dash and steering wheel visit <a href='http://www.euronet.nl/users/jefgeny/elansprint.html' target='_blank'>http://www.euronet.nl/users/jefgeny/elansprint.html</a>

This is a very nice, totally original 1972 FHC RHD Sprint for sale in Holland. I believe Chapman signature steering wheels were fitted to the S4 and Sprint.

Good luck with the TLC

I have a late 72 Sprint and it has a Chapman signed wheel although the horn push is different from that seen on earlier Chapman wheels. It's bigger and covers the whole central boss.
