Installing Front Damper

Hi all,
Does somebody knows about installing front dampers?
The original dampers had a body OD of 1.9" and a spring ID of 2.1".
If we can use 2" OD damper body and a spring ID of 2.25",
the front chassis uprights will need a little metal removing?
Can we use the original top wishbone? or require modification?
Please share your experience.
Thank you.

Why not use the correct dampers for the car? If you need to customise the damping rate, adjustables are available. I have Protech dampers from Tony Thompson on my car and have been very pleased with them.

I agree nigelrbfurness. If you feel it necessary to make modifications, make them so they are reversible. You would surprise the whole world of Lotus if you can make an Elan handle better than they do out of the box. They are still a benchmark.

TTR actually sells a slightly larger OD damper / spring unit for competition Elans. This requires a small amount to be scalloped out of the sides of the opening in the front uprights where the damper unit passes through. There must be a performance advantage in terms of damper and spring options when setting up the car.

cheers

Hi Rohan,
I have received the information of 26r shock absorber fitment from Tom@TTR.
Yes, the uprights need a little metal removing and the original top wishbone not require modification.
Thank you for the information.
