Does anyone know if you can legally use Avon ACB9 tires on the road? I am pretty sure that these are the tires that Jay Leno has on his 26r car.

Yes, I saw that but if these are indeed the tires that Leno uses on the street, perhaps they have a DOT number and can be used on the street anyway.

I don't know definitively, however , I'd be really surprised if they were legal in the UK.
I've dealt with Avon quite a bit and have found them very helpful on the phone. Give 'em a ring?

I have a set on my Crossle Formula Ford. The sidewalls read "For Racing Purposes Only - Not for Higway Use".

I think if you buff off the white paint on the sidwall lettering, absolutely no one aside from the boffin wankers walking around car shows would ever notice.

My son wore out a set of Dunlops on his formerly race, now road going Seven. No issue.

All well and good until you try to make an insurance claim.... just think of the consequences if you are at fault and the third parties are dead/seriously injured....

Well, there is that. The only time I have ever seen someone cited for race tires on the street, the car had large drag race slicks on the back(he had just performed a spectacular burnout). I think the greatest risk of all is simply driver behaviour. We all take a risk climbing out of bed in the morning. Running treaded race tyres on the highway is second or third order risk.

We are also in different countries. Even here in Kalifornia, the Monitoring Nanny State, the Highway Patrol or local police simply do not micromanage the vehicle code. No one here has ever been cited for missing a center cap on a wheel.

Yes, you could be sued. You can sue anyone or be sued for most anything. A Grand Jury could indict a ham sandwich.

The tyres wouldn't pass our MOT ( even if a declared new version) and if one is involved in an accident, the car may be thoroughly inspected by Her Majesty's Constabulary, especially likely if a fatality.
