Plus 2 rear brake advice

Hi all
Having dismantled my barn find Plus 2 I've been sorting stuff into replace and repair piles.
The OS rear brake has a break in the casting across the mounting hole nearest the handbrake mechanism. My instant thought was that it's scrap and I need to source another.
Am I right in thinking this is the case? I can't imagine this is repairable safely?
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Andy

I would concur with your take on things....especially when it comes to stopping......
I wouldn't risk it personally.......others may.......
you might be able to get it mended?........

I can tonight when I get home from work.
They do look rather pricey and most that I've seen are exchange, so I might be better to find a good used one and have it reconditioned with the NS one and the front pair.
Anyone have a spare OS rear caliper?!
Andy

I don't think you should rule out repair of the crack given the cost of replacement.
The crack may be on the right side of braking load in as well.

I think I would rule repair out now!
But don't bin the handbrake bits.

That was my view too, but I just wanted to check before binning it. Thanks for the advice guys.

Hi, Andy. I have a pair without the handbrake bits. On my next list of parts to post at month end. Getting close to the end of my Elan bits from the 27 foot Lotus Storage Container for the departed S2 and S4 FHC.
Cheers. Mike, in Richmond, CA, near San Francisco, so pop over when you can and bring them home as checked luggage.

Its repairable ... just not economic as you would have to machine off the cracked section and machine up a replacement section and then figure out how to join it to the remaining sound part of the caliper via keying and bolting. It would only cost a few thousand dollars unless you happen to have your own CNC milling machine and lots of time and have experience at this sort of work
buy a replacement
cheers

I've finished stripping it to fully assess the damage. Taking it to a coded welder for assessment this afternoon.
None of the people I've called have a spare in stock.
