Pogo-ing rear end

Sorry, another "is it really supposed to do that" type of question.

Driving enthusiastically down the potholed streets in my locality, I noticed odd behaviour in the way the car is handling. Feels like the back end has no damper fitted. When I go over a bit of uneven road, it sort of squats then bounces back up and this unsettles the back end, requiring corrective steering action. It's really weird, as if the car is bouncing up and down like a rabbit.

I parked up and did the old "jump up & down on each corner" trick to see if the shock absorbers are dead. The rear went down a long way (very soft spring) and then returned immediately with no bouncing. Maybe a slight delay before coming back up. Front was the same, with less travel. So I concluded that the dampers are OK, with the rears possibly sticking a little.

Definitely could use some advice on this one!

No suggestion sorry but maybe an idea to start a thread on your car and keep all the queries in one place?

HNY.

That?s not how people expect forums to work. I ask a question by starting a thread, and the content pertaining to my question is discussed on the same thread.

I have lots of questions right now, because I?m an enthusiastic new owner who is keen to sort the car out.

I really don?t think I need to apologise for that..

Quite right, JonB, and very helpful for many of us as we learn from the discussions. Also think the separate threads will assist future searches.

Jon
Look out! Rebuild alert!
Rear wheel steer may be a symptom of a less than taught rear end.
Maybe your wishbone bushes aren't as taut as they may be.
You also reported some knocking at rear so the lotocones may be loose.
Youve not got anything else planned for the rest of the month have you?!
Mark

Possibly sticking and steering; I would have a look at all the fasteners on the rear to make sure they a tightened properly and check that the bushings are all in place (remember some are tightened when sitting at normal height not on lift). Then I would check the rear alignment. Then I would start scratching my head.

I'll be interested to see how you go, I have a similar issue. But I also get a bit of a loud bangy rattle for lack of a better description. I'm going to be doing some proper investigation this break when I fly home.

Have you got the rubber 'spring' bump stop thing installed?

Dunno. These bumps are not big enough to cause the suspension to bottom out, though.

That's a good point about the 'bump stop' - so much more than that.

How about making one thread (just one msg which you edit from time to time) which is an index list and links to all your other threads.

That?s not how people expect forums to work.

Not necessarily!

I guess if Jon had realised just what getting the indicators to cancel was going to lead to he may have started an index!
