Why? - whats different?

Well can you tell me if that specific unit has imperial or metric fittings? And what issues there are in fitting it?

May query was around volumes not fittings

It's an old thread, that I jumped on because a poster had experience of this specific M/C. The Datsun M/C seems to be more common in the US and Australia. From memory Rohan and Vaughan have both used it.

So what's the latest good option for twin circuit brakes on a +2? Any advances on an old Nissan Sunny?

Assisted or non assisted?

I've been through this for non assisted and it is difficult, I am still running a 5/8" single master on my car...

There is a Spitfire one of the right diameter but it is too long to fit a RHD +2. I recently saw someone with a rebuild pedal box that could angle the master and allow it to fit.

Apart from that I think there may be one from a caterham, probably:

But it's not cheap.

I believe that the Datsun ones needs quite a bit of machining to fit a +2 pedal box.

As Rob called out in his post, I always fit the Datsun 11/16" master cylinders, its aluminium and its possible to rescue the height of the reservoirs by enough to fit under the Webers.

With Datsun master you need to ensure that you remove the residual pressure valve in the body which is used in the rear circuit (OEM Datsun used this on Disk/Drum brake setup).

Over here in Aust there are a number of makers, with the quality varying significantly across makers. The one I use have an identical dimension for the reservoirs to clamp onto as Tilton master cylinders so its also possible to use their remote reservoirs if required.

Being Aluminium they are lighter than the cast iron of Girling options.

I understand there is also an AP racing option which may be worth investigating....

Perfect! That's just what I needed to hear - thank you. I figured that I could reduce the height of the M/C reservoirs, but I was waiting for new engine mounts before deciding how much material to remove. The old mounts are less than a 1,000 mile old and have badly sagged, I'm trying a harder type from SJ Sportscars.

Excellent tip about the residual pressure valve, I have no idea what it looks like, but sometime this afternoon I hope to be familiar with it.

Found the residual pressure valve, will replace it with a short set screw and copper washer. Thanks again.

A great help for me too. I've looked at sourcing a Nissan/Datsun part in the UK and there's a Sunny part that looks about right but it's not cheap. Does anyone know the Nissan model and year in the UK to help my search please?

I don't know if UK source but I don't believe Datsun master will fit a +2. If you look at photo of them the outlets protrude some distance below the master. I believe these will foul the peddle box on a +2, especially with the fittings connected. This isn't an issue for the elan that had lots of clearance under the master I believe.

I think the outlets are at the side, not sure what the bottom parts are.

The bleed nipples on the side are just that - bleed nipples. I gather that sometimes bleeding the system can be problematic, hence the nipples being where they are. The brake pipe unions are underneath the cylinder. You might be able to getaway with banjo bolts and flexi hoses.

I had a long thread on this topic and was provided detail of someone who fitted the Datsum master. My memory was it involved machine down the outlets and cutting new threads, it might have been converting the bleed nipples to output. Either way its not a bolt in replacement on a +2!
